The nonfiction narrative, American Wings, Iranian Roots, will address the void of accessible literature for secondary students available to explore Iranian culture, politics, ancient and contemporary history.
As professional educators in secondary public schools for over two decades, we are acutely aware of this need.
A gold medal wrestler, Reza Abedi’s inspiring life reaches into the world of covered woman and dark eyed men to shatter the walls dividing us. The primary setting is in Iran during the 1970’s and early 1980’s with his life celebrating the core universal values of courage, freedom and honor.
Additionally, the story offers a dual journey of not only Reza, but of myself, American author Kristin Orloff. My reflections are woven throughout the story and will connect with readers of every background. This ready to use complete curriculum will be worth every cent. Each chapter features a pre-reading preview, journal topics, discussion questions, group and individual activities, dialectical journal, literally circle topics, assessments, literary and Social Science connections, research topics and more! You will not be disappointed.
If you would like it in Word, pdf or shared as a Google Doc, contact the author at Orloffwrites@gmail.com. The version will be sent to you, also at no extra charge. The book is available as an ebook, an audible book and in print. Print books can be ordered in bulk at a discounted price. Contact Kristin Orloff at Orloffwrites@gmail.com for additional information. The outstanding feature of this work is the narrative itself.
Reza’s unique journey celebrates the culture of the Middle East through universal values appropriate for every classroom. Reza’s conversations with his family and specifically his teacher, Mr. Mehdian, will serve as an academic platform for historical and contemporary Middle Eastern politics. Students will experience the events before, during and after the 1979 Revolution thus procuring understanding and compassion only possible through authentic experience.
Interlaced with my American’s point of view, American Wings, Iranian Roots connects our two societies with meaning and purpose. Moreover, it creates valid conversations regarding the relationship between Iran and America, current Middle Eastern events, and Iranian society. It is age appropriate for early adolescence through adults.
It is a perfect compliment to most secondary Language Arts and Social Science courses.
Moreover, Reza’s journey mirrors the authentic hero’s journey as well reflecting the immigrants’ journey of millions.
